My journey to amyedits.

Amy Davies, BA

English Literature and Creative Writing (First class BA), 2015-2018

I studied English Literature and Creative Writing at university and graduated with a first-class bachelor’s degree.

It was during these three years that I began to lean more and more into creative writing, both in developing my own writing skills and learning writing theory. This creative writing side of my ungraduate degree played a key role in the development of my skills as an editor – in particular, the skills to offer structural editing services. POV, psychic distance, characterisation, plot & story: my knowledge of these key things developed significantly at this stage of my education. Finally, I produced a first-class creative writing dissertation as part of my first-class degree!

Throughout my creative writing education I always favoured fiction writing and, more specifically, experimental fiction.

Amy Davies, MA

Publishing (MA), 2018-2019

I then moved into completing my master’s degree in Publishing. Throughout my master’s degree, I gained extensive up-to-date knowledge of the publishing industry and the skills to work in various departments within it: marketing, production, editorial, and design. I was taught and examined in the art of copyediting, typesetting, and all things editorial. This educational experience also gave me invaluable knowledge of the publishing industry, allowing me to give clients advice regarding the publishability of their novels and where their manuscripts fit into the market. I also have a background in writing script appraisals and copywriting for university publications.

It became clear to me in this year how passionate I was about becoming an editor. Not only this, but I became obsessed with the idea of modernising the process and creating a service that made editing more accessible.

Amy Davies, CIEP member

CIEP: Intermediate membership granted, 2022

In addition to my university education, I am currently a member of CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading). I first became an introductory member in 2019, and have now been successfully upgraded to an Intermediate level. My business is made up of many goals, and one of them is to increase my membership level again over the next five years. To do this, I am committed to developing my skills, working as hard as I possibly can to gain new clients and fulfil all other criteria to get me there. I am investing in my career as a copyeditor and am always looking to be the best editor I can be, with credentials you can trust.

During my time as a CIEP member, I have completed three courses to back up my training and keep my editing skills fresh:
